Where will this course lead?
This course is ideal for you if you are planning on progressing onto a Higher Education qualification in Sport. This includes people who are interested in careers in Coaching, Sports Development and teaching sport at various levels that will require a degree or equivalent.

Physiology of Fitness
Sports Coaching
Sports Nutrition
Sports Injuries/ Sports Massage
Sports Analysis/ Profiling Sports Performance
How will this course be delivered?
This course is mainly classroom based with the aim of you being able to put into practice everything that you learn in the classroom into a practical setting to either improve your own performance or that of the people that you coach.
What qualifications will I get?
BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport (QCF)
How will I be assessed?
To pass this course you will carry out a wide range of assessment activities. The course is assessed via 100% coursework e.g. written reports, formal presentations, poster design and presentation, leading practical sessions etc.
How do I get a place on the course?
You need to attend an Information Evening where all questions can be answered and places are offered by a successful interview. Interviews can be booked at the Information Evening.
What are the entry requirements?
4 GCSE grades at C or above. Progression from a level 2 qualification at Merit level. You will need to have a suitable reference and undertake a successful interview.
If you have a Learning Difficulty or Disability please let us know when you apply. You will be offered support in your interview. If you need help completing your application we can help with this too.
What else do I need to know?
You will need to purchase course materials and Solihull College uniform which are part of your course fees. You may also be invited to attend trips to a variety of places across the UK and even abroad but these are offered only to students as a reward for continued hard work and excellent attendance. You will be required to have an up to date CRB check for your Work Experience and Coaching Unit.
Solihull College offers full time and part time courses for businesses and residents in Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry Warwickshire and the whole of the West Midlands.
What can I do after this course?
If you are successful on this course, you will be able to continue studying towards a higher education qualification such as a Higher National Diploma or a sport related degree either at a College or University. Employment as a coach or sports leader is also possible after completing this course as long as extra coaching qualifications have been gained.
