Where will this course lead?

This course is for candidates who are currently employed in an environment where they are working with children and young people, assisting in the delivery of sports or activities (e.g. primary schools, secondary schools, youth groups.)

What will I study?

Throughout your apprenticeship you will learn: - To plan, deliver, and evaluate activity sessions - Health and Safety in planning and delivering activity sessions - First Aid - Key Skills in English and Maths

How will this course be delivered?

Attendance is based around current employment commitments - this will be discussed at interview, however some attendance at college will be required.

What qualifications will I get?

(1st 4sport) Level 2 Certificate Supporting Learning in Physical Education and School

(1st 4sport) Level 2 NVQ Certificate Activity Leadership

(1st 4sport) Level 2 Award in Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning

First Aid

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed in the workplace and throughout your study with us in the following ways:

- Observation of instructing skills in the work environment.

- A portfolio of session plans from the work environment.

- A variety of coursework and oral assessments.

How do I get a place on the course?

Applications should be made via College Call Centre on 0121 678 7000, or the college website. You will then be invited in for an interview and screening test for the course you have chosen.

What are the entry requirements?

Applicants MUST be employed in the working environment. Examples of suitable employment are in schools or youth groups. GCSE's in Maths, English and Science at grade D/3 or above are desirable. Good communication skills are essential. Applicants must be 17 years old to join the course.

What else do I need to know?

You will be able to continue your progress by completing a range of coaching courses in order to build your employability as a coach. You will also be able to progress on to a Level 3 qualification in Sport which will further build your knowledge and skills.

Good levels of English and Maths are important for your success in your course, your chosen vocation and life. Throughout your course you will continue to develop your English and Maths skills in your vocational classes. If you haven't achieved an A*/1 - C/4 grade in English or Maths at GCSE, or a Level 2 Functional Skill, you will also be working towards a qualification in English or Maths at a level that will enable you to progress towards these grades.
