Where will this course lead?
This full time programme is offered to and aimed at ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) learners.
The Literacy sessions will be taught by specialist ESOL tutors.
The Access to FE course is suitable for you if: You are between 16 and 19 years old You have few or no formal qualifications You are unsure about your educational or job path
What will I study?
This is a one year full time programme in which you can gain a variety of qualifications such as: Maths & English - from Entry Level to GCSE* ICT - Entry Level to Level 1. Personal and Social Development (PSD) including Career Progression and Healthly Living modules. A Vocational Unit in one of the following areas: Sport, Art and Media, Land Based Studies, Business, Sport, Hair and Beauty. GCSE* currently only offered in English as part of this course and subject to assessment.
How will this course be delivered?
You will study up to a maximum of 18 hours per week over 5 days. Classes generally run between 9am-5pm but may vary. Timetables will be given to all students during enrolment and induction week.
What qualifications will I get?
Vocational study not leading to a recognised qualification, Preparation for Life and Work (SSA 14)
How will I be assessed?
The course is assessed in a number of different ways depending on the level of qualification you take. This could be: course work, assignments, online tests, written exams. Some elements are assessed by course tutors and verified by an awarding body.

What are the entry requirements?
No specific qualifications are required to join the course. However, we ask students to take part in an initial assessment and interview to determine if you have the correct level of Maths and English skills and to decide if this is a suitable programme. You will also be asked for a positive reference.
What else do I need to know?
This course provides well supported learning in small groups and gives a high priority to personal tutoring.
Solihull College offers full time and part time courses for businesses and residents in Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry Warwickshire and the whole of the West Midlands.
What can I do after this course?
The course can lead to a variety of Level 1 or 2 vocational courses, to training or employment. Appropriate advice for progression will be provided.
Is there anything else I will have to pay for in order to do this course?
You will be need to provide all basic stationery including pens, pencils, paper, plastic wallets, folders plus any additional stationery which is required for your course. There may be additional costs for visits throughout the year.
