Where will this course lead?

This course is ideal for you if you are intending to progress to Higher Education. The Access programme is recognised by all universities nationally and will give you a thorough understanding of the subjects you will be studying at university.

This course is ideal for you if you are intending to pursue a career in social work, public services and human resources or counselling. You will cover Psychology and Sociology with a compulsory subject of Social Policy for progression into social work.

What will I study?

There are two core subjects on the programme which are Study Skills and Mathematics, and those students wishing to go into specialist careers will need to choose the recommended subjects from the following options depending on the pathway chosen:

Education
English Literature
History
Psychology
Social Policy
Sociology

How will this course be delivered?

The Access programme is 13 hours per week. The majority of classes run from 9.15 to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday.

The course is taught by highly experienced specialist tutors using the latest innovative teaching methods.

Access to Higher Education Diploma: Social Science - Solihull College

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is through internal assignments and written exams.

The programme is verified by the OCNWMR

Access to HE application and diagnostic assessment

What are the entry requirements?

No formal qualifications are required to apply for the course.

You will need to demonstrate your ability and commitment and be able to show that you have the appropriate educational background/experiences that will allow you to be successful on a level 3 Access programme.

Solihull College offers full time and part time courses for businesses and residents in Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry Warwickshire and the whole of the West Midlands.

What can I do after this course?

Successful completion of this programme will allow you to progress into Higher Education on a degree or higher national course.

Is there anything else I will have to pay for in order to do this course?

Students will be required to purchase recommended text books if required.

All students will be required to make set contributions towards educational trips and/or travel expenses to local universities for master classes.
