Where will this course lead?
Any career working with people involves psychology, including: child care, counselling, nursing and social work. Higher education courses in: Criminal Psychology, Sports Psychology, Occupation Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Teaching, Nursing/Social Work.
What will I study?
The course covers the following areas of study
AS Psychology
The core areas of Psychology:
Cognitive Psychology (memory/thinking)
Developmental Psychology (attachment)
Physiological Psychology (body response to stress),
Social Psychology (obedience & conformity)
The scientific use of Psychology
Research methods
A2 Psychology:
Applied Psychology (relationships, psychopathology),
Psychology in Action

How will this course be delivered?
At AS level, the first term begins by covering the first three topics: Cognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology and Research Methods. There will be a 1.5 hour exam on these topics in January. The second term covers the remaining topics: Physiological Psychology, Social Psychology and Individual Differences (Abnormality). There will be a 1.5 hour exam on these topics in June.

How do I get a place on the course?
A level programme application and interview.
What are the entry requirements?
A-Levels are part of a 2 year full time programme which will require 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, generally from national Curriculum subjects and normally including both English and Mathematics and an average point score of 5. Also a successful interview where we will require current academic references and reports.
Subject specific requirements for Psychology include GCSE Grade C or above in English and Mathematics.
What else do I need to know?
For both AS Psychology and A2 Psychology, you will be required to purchase a core text and would be advised on what this is during the A Level taster sessions.
Good Maths and English skills are integral components of your course, for example, research is an important part of psychology and most data collected requires some sort of mathematical and written analysis.

Students will be required to purchase a recommended text book and you will also need a scientific calculator.
All students will be required to make set contributions towards educational trips and/or travel expenses to local universities for master classes.
