Birmingham City Captain Coaches College Football Stars
Blues Midfielder Lee Carsley gives students on Solihull College’s Football Development Scheme a helping hand.
Throughout the season, Carsley has been honing his coaching skills with students on the College’s popular Development Scheme on a weekly basis and has enjoyed it so much that he plans to carry on next season.
The scheme provides young footballers aged 16-19 with an opportunity to combine an academic qualification with a high-quality coaching programme and in the past, has seen students go on to play for top clubs such as Walsall and Reading.
The programme is run by College tutor Mickey Moore who is also Carsley’s ex-Derby County team-mate. He comments: “I don’t think there’s any College in the Country, let alone the West Midlands that has this sort of help. Lee has played in the World Cup, Champions League and Premier League and has added real value to our students. They’ve loved having him around.”
The College is now recruiting for the next in-take of students to start the Football Development Scheme in September and will be holding trials for budding footballers aged 16-19 on the 1st and 2nd June. Booking is essential and the College is asking those interested to register for a trial by no later than the 24th May by calling the Admissions team on 0121 678 7000.
Those who are successful will be given the opportunity to enrol onto the scheme.
Mickey Adds: “This is a fantastic opportunity for talented young footballers in the region, we hope to see a good turn out.”
