Where will this course lead?
This course is ideal for you if are keen to develop a career in art and design and you would like to prepare for the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design.

What will I study?
You will get an introduction to:
Painting and drawing
Experimenting with different techniques
Sculpture and product design
Printmaking
Photography
Maths, English and IT will be an important part of your course. You will continue to develop these skills and may work towards a qualification at an appropriate level.
How will this course be delivered?
You will be based in our new art and design studios and you will work on practical projects which will help you to develop your existing skills and learn new ones.
What qualifications will I get?
Diploma in Visual Arts (QCF)
How will I be assessed?
Your project work is marked by your teachers and the grades agreed by the exam board. There may be some tests if you are working towards a Maths, English or IT qualification.
How do I get a place on the course?
Places are offered by interview and a screening test. You will be asked to bring along some of your artwork to show us.
What are the entry requirements?
Two GCSE's at Grade E or above in Art and English Language and a successful interview.
If you have a Learning Difficulty or Disability please let us know when you apply. You will be offered support in your interview. If you need help completing your application we can help with this too.
What else do I need to know?
You will be able to go on visits to art galleries, museums and places of interest during the course.
Solihull College offers full time and part time courses for businesses and residents in Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry Warwickshire and the whole of the West Midlands.
What can I do after this course?
If you are successful on this course you will then be able to continue with the Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design. This could then lead to you following your chosen art and design subject on a Level 3 course at the College.
Is there anything else I will have to pay for in order to do this course?
You will need to have all basic drawing and painting materials and equipment and you can buy these from us as a kit at the beginning of the year. You will also need to have additional stationery.
There will be a cost for any trips or visits you go on.
