Where will this course lead?
This course is ideal for you if you interested in working in the gardening industry. Careers are vast from retail, arboriculture, grounds maintenance, garden designer, hard landscaper, plant researcher, plant grower, sports turf and greenkeeping. Whilst at College you will be working in a very pleasant walled garden, new classrooms and a purpose built barn where students can work regardless of the weather.
What will I study?

Industrial Experience
Basic Landscape Production
Horticultural Plants
Nursery Stock Production
Leglislation in the Horticulture Industry
Maths, English and IT will be an important part of your course. You will continue to develop these skills and will work towards a qualification at an appropriate level.
How will this course be delivered?
You will be required to spend three days per week in College and one day at work placement
What qualifications will I get?
Diploma in Horticulture (QCF)
How will I be assessed?
Continuous assessment is undertaken throughout the course through practical and theory-based assessments as well as written assignments.
How do I get a place on the course?
You will need to attend an interview.
What are the entry requirements?
Two GCSE passes at grade E or above
An interest in gardening and related subjects
Someone who enjoys practical work and likes working outside in all weathers
A successful interview
Mature students are welcomed.

What else do I need to know?
You will need to provide steel toe capped safety boots and purchase College T-shirts and sweatshirts.
Solihull College offers full time and part time courses for businesses and residents in Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry Warwickshire and the whole of the West Midlands.
What can I do after this course?
You can progress to the national award - this qualification will enable you to gain employment in the horticultural industry and allow progression to a Level 3 course.
Is there anything else I will have to pay for in order to do this course?
There will also be various trips throughout the year.
