Where will this course lead?
This course is ideal for you if you are 16 - 19 and want to focus on a career in IT.
What will I study?
Website Design.
Programming.
Use of Databases.
Present graphical images.
Understanding of computer hardware.
Researching and using the Internet.
Skills for employment.
Money management.
Maths, English and IT will be an important part of your course. You will continue to develop these skills and may work towards a qualification at an appropriate level.
How will this course be delivered?
Students will carry out practical work using computers in the majority of lessons. Other lessons will involve group, written and research work.
What qualifications will I get?
Diploma in IT (QCF)
How will I be assessed?
To pass this qualification you will produce course work for your assessment. You will be tested for English, Maths and ICT Functional Skills.
How do I get a place on the course?
Places are offered by interview depending on your predicted grades and a good reference from your current tutor. You may also be tested for your English, Maths and ICT skills.
What are the entry requirements?
2 GCSE subjects at grade D or above, (one must be English and the other preferably Maths or Science), or Merit/Distinction in a BTec Level 1 Diploma in IT or an equivalent course. Plus a successful interview with a Course Tutor and a good reference from your current tutor.

What else do I need to know?
You need to bring a pen, notebooks and folders to every lesson. It is expected that you will bring a memory stick to save and back up your work.
You will be required to contribute to educational trips.
Solihull College offers full time and part time courses for businesses and residents in Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry Warwickshire and the whole of the West Midlands.
What can I do after this course?
The majority of students who are successful on this course progress to level 3 in IT, Business or other related qualifications. Some students go into work.
Is there anything else I will have to pay for in order to do this course?
Educational trips are part of our course and students will be expected to contribute towards them, this must be paid at enrolment.
