Where will this course lead?
This course is ideal for you if you have recently left school and wish to follow a career in the Art and Design Industry.
What will I study?

Working in Art and Design
Maths and English will be an important part of your course. You will continue to develop these skills and may work towards a functional skills qualification at an appropriate level.
How will this course be delivered?
The course is delivered through a series of practical and written assignments in specialist art and design studios.
What qualifications will I get?
BTEC Diploma in Art and Design (QCF)
How will I be assessed?
At the end of each assignment, your work will be assessed to your units of study.
How do I get a place on the course?
You will attend an interview where you will present your portfolio of artwork and discuss the course. You will also be asked to complete a drawing activity and write a short piece explaining why you wish to study art and design.
What are the entry requirements?
Two GCSE's at Grade D or above in Art or a related subject are essential, English is preferred and a successful interview.
If you have a Learning Difficulty or Disability please let us know when you apply. You will be offered support in your interview. If you need help completing your application we can help with this too.
What else do I need to know?
We expect a high level of attendance and punctuality from our students.
Solihull College offers full time and part time courses for businesses and residents in Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry Warwickshire and the whole of the West Midlands.
What can I do after this course?
If you achieve a Merit grade for the course you will have the opportunity to apply for a Level 3 specialist art or design course. If you achieve a pass grade you will be offered a Subsidiary Diploma in your chosen pathway
Is there anything else I will have to pay for in order to do this course?
On starting the course you will be required to purchase a kit of art and design materials. A small charge is also made for drawing paper.
