Where will this course lead?
This course is ideal for you if you are interested in Animal Management or if you would like a career in the animal care industry. This course is two years in length and a Level 3 qualification. On completion, this course provides UCAS points and possible entry into Higher Education.This course could lead to work with the RSPCA, working with Guide Dogs for the blind, Pet Shop management and Veterinary Nursing.
What will I study?
Some of the core units are:
Understand and promote animal health
Understand the principles of Animal Biology
Understand Animal Anatomy and Physiology
Animal handling and Safe Working
Plan and Monitor Animal Feeding
Carry out the practice of Exotice Animal Health and Husbandry
Undertake Wildlife Management and Rehabilitation
Understand the principles of Wildlife populations, Ecology and Conservation
Understand and carry out Farm Livestock Husbandry
Understand the principles and undertake the practice of Animal Nursing
Maths, English and IT will be an important part of your course. You will continue to develop these skills and will work towards a qualification at an appropriate level.
How will this course be delivered?
You will be required to spend three days per week in College; one day on an animal related work placement; the fifth day is a study day to enable you to complete extra study working on assignments. This is time spent studying away from college and is essential to complete your course.
What qualifications will I get?
Extended Diploma in Animal Management (QCF)
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is continual over the 2 years mainly by the completion of assignments, but students are also assessed practically on the animal care unit and in the work place. You will be given the opportunity to gain a pass, merit or distinction in each subject.
How do I get a place on the course?
You will be required to attend an interview.
What are the entry requirements?
Minimum qualifications for this course are:
Four GCSE passes at Grade A-C to include Science , English Language and Maths or
Level 2 Diploma in Animal Care at Distinction and a suitable reference
To support your application you will need a suitable character or tutor reference and a copy of your latest school report (if applicable)

What else do I need to know?
You will need to provide a pair of steel toe cap boots, purchase a College boiler suit and a work placement polo shirt. Price on application.

What can I do after this course?
When you successfully achieve this qualification you can go onto a variety of HE courses including university courses such as Zoology and Animal Biology and Animal Behaviour, and careers in the animal care industries for example the RSPCA, pet shops, kennels and catteries, trainee veterinary nurse, ranger or wildlife conservation work. Some students go on to set up their own businesses within the industry.

There will also be various trips throughout the year.
