Course Details
Course Code

Where will this course lead?
The Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production is an ideal course if you are interested in making and studying films, researching and analysing the Media and developing communication and presentational skills. Many of our students progress to study Media Production or related courses at university or to go into employment within the film-making sector.
What will I study?
You will be studying 19 Units over 2 academic years, focusing on areas of media theory, audio, graphics and media production. The first 6 weeks of the course will be a separate Short Award in Interactive Media - which will give you the chance to get your production skills up to date and learn the basic terminology needed for the Level 3.
Examples of Units and projects you will be studying are:
Documentary making
Research Techniques
Single camera drama
Critical Approaches to Media Products
Music Video Production
Soundtrack Production
How will this course be delivered?
The course will be delivered on site, with the opportunity for you to go off-site to film projects. You will be expected to undertake research and homework outside of class time, and you may need to use the editing suites outside of class time.
What qualifications will I get?
Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production (QCF)
How will I be assessed?
You must complete all 19 Units over the 2 academic year programme in order to achieve the full Extended Diploma. Most Units have 10 credits attached to them, some have 5. You need to achieve 180 credits, and have successfully completed the 8 mandatory Units.
Assessment is via practical assignments, course work, presentations and class work in each unit.
You will be awarded a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade for each completed Unit.
How do I get a place on the course?
Places on the course are offered by interview initially. You will also be expected to attend a Taster Day in late June, where you will have the opportunity to make a short film in a day which will then allow the team to select students to be offered a firm place, dependent on grades.
What are the entry requirements?
To apply for a place on this highly popular course, you need to hold at least 5 GCSE's including English Language at a grade "C" or above. You should have an interest in the Media, be able to work in a team as well as stick to tight deadlines and schedules. You will need to bring evidence of your original certificates at Induction, and also understand that there is a short introductory course, which you must successfully complete before moving onto the Diploma. This 6 week course will involve making a short film, and getting to know the basics of the camera and editing equipment.
You do not have to have any previous media experience, although this is desirable. You should be passionate about film-making and learning about this exciting industry.
If you have a Learning Difficulty or Disability please let us know when you apply. You will be offered support in your interview. If you need help completing your application we can help with this too.
