Where will this course lead?
The course is suitable for anyone (16-19) who is keen to develop a career in Textiles or Fashion or a related area and wishes to prepare for a higher education/university course in the area of Textiles or Fashion.
Studying on the Diploma in Textiles will lead you onto University level study preparing you for careers in textile design, fashion design, surface pattern design, knitwear design, craft worker, and teaching,
The Diploma will develops skills in research, drawing , fabric printing, garment, product manufacture, sewing, dyeing, batik, textile/fashion design, computer aided art and design, textile/fashion design history.
What will I study?
Textile design is a discipline that is very varied; we will work to briefs in the following areas:
Textile Design
Fashion Design
Sewing
Garment manufacture
Dyeing
Fabric Printing
Batik
Computer Aided Design
You will produce project work in the first year that covers all these areas, with additional sessions studying observational and figure drawing and art & design history.
The second year goes into more depth in all of the briefs you are assigned, but you will have more freedom to specialise in the area you wish to progress into through Pathway and Final Major Projects.
How will this course be delivered?
You will study up to a maximum of 20 hours per week over a maximum of 4 days. Classes generally run between 9am-5pm but may vary. Timetables will be given to all students during enrolment and induction week
What qualifications will I get?
Extended Diploma in Art and Design (QCF)
How will I be assessed?
Work is internally assessed and verified and then externally examined and moderated.
How do I get a place on the course?
Successful college interview. A portfolio of work.

What are the entry requirements?
At least four GCSEs at grade C or above (Art is essential and English Language is preferred) or a BTEC First Diploma in Art & Design at Merit grade or above. All students will undertake a six week introductory/diagnostic course prior to progressing on to the Extended Diploma. Successful college interview. A portfolio of work.

What can I do after this course?
Progression from this course is normally into higher education on to an HND, Foundation Degree or BA Hons in Textile of Fashion Design or a related subject. This could lead to careers in design for textiles, fashion, craft design and teaching.
Is there anything else I will have to pay for in order to do this course?
You will need to provide all basic drawing and painting materials and equipment; this is normally purchased from us as a basic kit at the beginning of the year. You will also need to provide any additional stationery which is required for your course.
