Introduction
- The BTEC National Diploma is a full-time programme and is suitable for people who wish to become engineers and technicians within the automotive and Motorsport industry. This provides an sound base for progressing into higher education. You may go into a career in one of many engineering disciplines as a technician and there is a clear route through into incorporated and chartered status. Engineers regularly move into senior positions within national and international organisations
What will be covered in the course?
- The diploma requires the completion of 18 units overall. Typical units include: Vehicle systems Vehicle fault diagnosis and rectification Motorsport Workshop practices Motorsport vehicle preparation Mathematics for technicians Business systems for technicians Vehicle electrical and electronic systems Petrol fuel injection systems Vehicle engine management systems

Entry Requirements
At least 4 GCSEs at A*-C including maths and science OR a BTEC 1st Cert or Diploma in a related subject (Merit) OR An intermediate GNVQ in a related subject (Merit)
What qualification(s) can be gained?
BTEC National Diploma in Vehicle Technology (Motor Sport)
How is the course assessed?
All units are individually graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded. Assessment is by internal assessment comprising of home based assignments, time controlled assessments, practical activity and computer based assessment. This list is not exhaustive and other methods may be used.

An Interview is required to join this course. Solihull College offers full time and part time courses for businesses and residents in Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry Warwickshire and the whole of the West Midlands.
Next steps
After completing this qualification you could gain employment in: Automotive engineering, Motorsport teams or Automotive engineering design. If you decide to go to university you could study a degree in Motorsport or take a BTEC Higher National Diploma or Certificate in subjects such as Automotive Engineering.
