Where will this course lead?
This course is ideal for you if you are 18 years and over and have completed and passed level 3 qualifications. It is designed to provide for the needs of a wide range of individuals who wish to gain academic knowledge and understanding of how business works and to evaluate the application of business principles. The course develops students' abilities and personal skills in management, analysis and presentation of information to enable progression to independent learners. It gives a clear route to employment and degree courses.
What will I study?
You will study a minimum of 16 units over two years. The units for this programme have been selected to offer you the best opportunities for progression, both academically and professionally. The lessons are practical and interactive, focusing on how business theory applies in the contemporary workplace. Year 1 modules include: Marketing, Finance, Business structures and working environments, Law, and Communication. Year 2 modules include; Strategy, Decision Making, a Research Project and five specialist units. Maths, English and IT will be an important part of your course. You will continue to develop these skills and may work towards a qualification at an appropriate level if this has not already been obtained.
How will this course be delivered?
The course is delivered over 2 years, the first being at level 4 and the second at level 5. Each year has two semesters of 15 weeks and delivery is over 3 days a week. Additional study of approximately 15 hours weekly will be needed for assignment work. Students will be expected to attend all lecture and tutorial sessions. Non attendance could lead to withdrawal from the course.

BTEC HND Diploma in Business (QCF)
How will I be assessed?
To pass this course you must pass all units. Assessment is by assignment, typically two per module. These assignments will vary and includes a mix of formal report, group or individual presentations, display, or timed test. However there will be no closed book examinations.
How do I get a place on the course?
To start the application process you will need to register with UCAS via the UCAS website (www.ucas.co.uk) and you will need to use the following UCAS codes on your application: Institution code: S26 and Course code:022N. Places are offered by interview.
What are the entry requirements?
Entry onto the HND programme is via one of following routes:
BTEC Diploma or Extended Diploma in Business at MMM profile, plus 2 GCSE's (or level 2 equivalents) at grade C or above in English and Maths.
160 UCAS Tariff points (from appropriate qualifications at level 3).
A suitable Access course with a minimum of 60 credits: (45 at level 3 and 15 at level 2)
You will need to provide references and to attend an interview prior to acceptance
International students are given consideration for entry if they can satisfy the criteria for points in a comparison of their home country qualifications against the British model and can prove that they have a good grasp of English by passing an IELTS qualification or equivalent at 6.0 or better.

What else do I need to know?
You will be need to provide all basic stationery including pens, pencils, paper, plastic wallets, folders plus any additional stationery which is required for your course. You will also need to provide costs for study visits on business related themes. You should allow £100.00 to cover these costs.

What can I do after this course?
Once you have successfully completed the qualification you can continue on to study a one year top up BA (Honours) Business and Management degree either at this College or another University. The Oxford Brookes degree offer at this College has an entry level requiring a Merit profile at level 5 and is subject to a successful interview. The HND is designed to give students insight into the varied functions of a business organisation, and you may aspire to a career in any of these functions but it will often be necessary to study for subject specific qualifications once a career path has been chosen. Many students choose to join company trainee schemes or start their own businesses.
Is there anything else I will have to pay for in order to do this course?
Books directly related to the topics being studied are recommended reading. These cost approximately £10 per book.
