Where will this course lead?
The Professional Certificate in Marketing qualification gives you the practical skills and knowledge to devise and execute tactical marketing activities. It is ideal for those who have completed the CIM Introductory Certificate in Marketing or those wanting to consolidate their marketing experience to date and develop their careers in this field.
It is aimed at those who are working in supporting marketing roles, usually within the marketing function, but also targets individuals in more senior roles, particularly in SMEs, where marketing is only part of what they do.
The typical profiles of people who might take this qualification could include:
Marketing assistants
Marketing co-ordinators
Marketing executives
Marketing managers in SMEs without formal marketing qualifications
Non-marketers with aspirations for marketing
Existing marketers wanting to become more specialist
What will I study?
Marketing Essentials - This includes the evolution of marketing, its importance to the organisation and society, stages in the planning process, assessment of key elements in internal and external environments, understanding and application of each of the 7 Ps in the marketing mix.
Market Information and Research - This includes research requirements for marketing decision making, customer databases, nature and scope of the research industry, selecting research suppliers, collecting marketing and customer information, using qualitative and quantitative research methods.
Assessing the Marketing Environment - This includes assessing the nature and scope of the internal marketing environment, types of organisation and the challenges they face, the characteristics of the micro environment and sources of information, assessing the impact of trends on the external environment and implications for corporate social responsibility.
Stakeholder Marketing - This includes the importance of stakeholders to the marketing function, relationship marketing, coordinating the marketing mix to support internal and external stakeholder relationships in line with budgets and timescales, measuring the success of the marketing mix and communications activities.
How will this course be delivered?
The course runs over approximately 15 months. Classes are mainly one evening per week 6.30-9.30pm, but with occasional daytime attendance required also. Classes are interactive, involving tutor's presentation of key concepts, group work and discussion. Students are expected to research marketing concepts and practice, as well as preparing for assignments and exams outside the classroom.

Marketing Essentials -assessed via examination.
Market Information and Research - assessed via assignment such as coursework and case studies.
Assessing the Marketing Environment - assessed via examination.
Stakeholder Marketing - assessed via assignment such as coursework and case studies.
How do I get a place on the course?
Places are offered by interview depending on your qualifications / work experience.
What are the entry requirements?
To qualify for this course you will need to meet at least one of these criteria: Min 2 'A' levels, hold any Bachelors or Masters degree, CIM Introductory Certificate in Marketing, NVQ or SVQ Level 3, international baccalaureate. Business or marketing experience would be an advantage but is not essential. Literacy and numeracy may be assessed at induction.
If English is not your first language, you will need to provide us with evidence of at least IELTS 6.5 proficiency or Trinity ISE III/IV.

CIM Registration £120 per annum, examination fee for Marketing Essentials £70, examination fee for Assessing the Marketing Environment £70, assignment fee for Marketing Information and Research £70 and assignment fee for Stakeholder Marketing £70; each of these is payable in turn as you study the unit.
