Where will this course lead?
This course is ideal for you if you:
-are seeking to develop a career in HR management and development;
- are working in the field of HR management and development and need to extend your knowledge and skills in employment law;
- have responsibility for implementing HR policies and strategies;
-need to understand the role of HR in the wider organisational and environmental context.
What will I study?
The purpose of employment regulation and the way it is enforced in practice.
How to manage recruitment and selection activities lawfully.
How to manage change and reorganisation lawfully.
How to manage issues relating to pay and working time lawfully.
Be able to ensure that staff are treated lawfully when they are at work.
How to manage performance and disciplinary matters lawfully.
How will this course be delivered?
Sessions contain a combination of individual and group work. This includes discussions, case studies, presentations, debates, research and tutorials.
What qualifications will I get?
Vocational study not leading to a recognised qualification, Business, Administration and Law (SSA 15)
How will I be assessed?
To pass this qualification you will attend at least 90% of sessions and pass one written assessment.
How do I get a place on the course?
Places are offered by interviews only. It may be possible to conduct some interviews over the telephone depending upon your existing qualifications and experience.
What are the entry requirements?
You should have a GCSE grade C or equivalent in English and a level 3 qualification such as:
-CIPD Foundation Certificate in HR Practice
-CIPD Certificate in Personnel Practice
-CIPD Foundation Certificate in Learning and Development Practice
-CIPD Certificate in Training Practice
-or two A levels (or equivalent).

What else do I need to know?
You are required to attend college for four hours a week, attend tutorials arranged with your tutor and undertake at least four hours self directed study each week.
Solihull College offers full time and part time courses for businesses and residents in Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry Warwickshire and the whole of the West Midlands.
What can I do after this course?
You can progress to study the Intermediate Certificate in Human Resource Management and would be exempt from the Employment Law unit.
Is there anything else I will have to pay for in order to do this course?
You may want to purchase books to support your studies.
