Where will this course lead?

The course aims to equip students with the knowledge, technical expertise and professional skills that will enhance their prospects of gaining employment in the computer networking industry and suitably preparing the learner for the Cisco Certified Entry and Network Associate certifications (CCENT/CCNA)

What will I study?

Year 1 (prepares for the CCENT exam)
-Networking for Home and Small Businesses.
-Working at a Small-to-Medium Business or ISP.

Year 2 (prepares for the CCNA exam)
-Introducing Routing and Switching in the Enterprise.
-Designing and Supporting Computer Networks.

How will this course be delivered?

This is a two year part time* programme commencing in late September every year at Blossomfield Campus. (* Normally offered on one evening per week). All of the course material is available electronically, although the dedicated Cisco lab offers the "hands on" component.

What qualifications will I get?

Vocational study not leading to a recognised qualification, Information and Communication Technology (SSA 6)

How will I be assessed?

Students are assessed by a combination of on-line exams and practical tests.

How do I get a place on the course?

The relevant course tutor interviews all students before being accepting on the programme, being part of the Institution's policy. In assessing such applications, consideration will be given to the applicant's ability to successfully complete a course, the nature of any additional support that may be required and how it may be provided.

International students should apply direct to the College's Centre for International Studies.

What are the entry requirements?

Applicants should have an awareness of computer hardware systems and basic network procedures.
Due credit for relevant previous work and experience can be taken into account.
Candidates for admission to the course will be considered on the applicant's ability to successfully complete the course.

What else do I need to know?

Due to the electronic nature of the course, access to a windows or Linux based computer is essential.

This course offers the learner the opportunity to work towards the CISCO CCENT (Cisco Certified Entry) - Year 1 and Cisco CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) - Year 2.

Students can elect to do either one year or both years, however direct entry to the 2nd year can only be completed if students have completed the year 1 modules.
Cisco has many worldwide respected IT certification programs which bring valuable, measurable rewards to network professionals, their managers and the organisations that employ them.

Solihull College offers full time and part time courses for businesses and residents in Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry Warwickshire and the whole of the West Midlands.

What can I do after this course?

This course is intended for individuals who are employed as or seeking employment as a Networking Engineer.
Alternative academic progression to HNC or HND in Networking is possible.
