College golf teams tee off to success
Solihull College’s two Golf teams score double victory as they secure first and second place in the Intercollegiate Tournament 2010 – a competition for College golf teams across the UK.
The College’s B team, made up of first year students on the College’s prestigious England Golf AASE Academy, have fought off tough competition from some of the best College golf players in the country to be crowned first place champions in this year’s tournament with an impressive 14 stroke winning margin.
The College’s A team, made up of the College’s second year Golf students, have secured second place in the competition.
Tom Ibbertson, captain of the winning B team comments: “The hard work with our dedicated coaches, Alistair Davies and Stuart Bottrill through the winter has really paid off. It meant that we were all well prepared to play our best golf in this tournament. The team spirit really lifted the players when it counted against a very talented field.”
The final round in the national competition was played recently over the 27 holes at the renowned Stonebridge Golf Club.
Andrew Schneider, England Golf AASE Academy Manager at Solihull College adds: “I’m really proud to be able to say that Solihull College is now the best golf college in the country. Everyone involved in the AASE programme from the coaching staff to the college tutors and from the apprentices themselves to the minibus driver have invested so much time and effort into making this programme what it is.”
The Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence for Golf is an exclusive programme specifically designed to support elite young golfers in their quest for excellence in the sport without neglecting their academic studies.
