Where will this course lead?
This course is ideal for you if you are aged 16 or more, normally the course is made up of younger students, those looking to return to work now the children are in full time schooling and people looking for a career change of all ages. The course leads to careers in Administration, Secretarial or as a Personal Assistant.
What will I study?
Various units related to administration from arranging UK and overseas travel to handling telephone enquiries
Specific units to develop your IT skills, particularly Word processing but also spreadsheets, databases and presentation software.
Maths and English will be an important part of your course. You will continue to develop these skills and may work towards a qualification at an appropriate level; depending upon your personal career goal and past qualifications.
How will this course be delivered?
Students will carry out practical work individually, in small groups using computers for written and research work.
What qualifications will I get?
Certificate in Administration (Business Professional) (QCF)
How will I be assessed?
To pass this qualification you will work on a number of practical assignments and also produce course work. You will be tested for English, Maths and ICT Functional Skills.
How do I get a place on the course?
Places are offered by interview with the course tutors, this can be over the telephone or face to face depending upon what best suits your circumstances. There is also a taster day in early September to allow you to experience the course as well before committing.
What are the entry requirements?
There are no formal qualifications required it depends upon experience and attitude. No past experience of using computers is required but is an advantage if you have used Word Processing packages in particular. An ability to comfortable in written English is also important so depending upon your qualifications / experience a diagnostic test may be used to check that you have the skills needed.

What else do I need to know?
You need to bring pen, notebooks and folders to every lesson. It is expected that you will bring a memory stick to save and back up your work.

What can I do after this course?
The majority of students who are successful on this course progress into work either as an Admin Apprentice or within a secretarial team / office. Some students have progressed on to Level 3 courses in other business areas.
Is there anything else I will have to pay for in order to do this course?
Head phones will be used in a number of our units and students may prefer to bring their own.
