Where will this course lead?
CompTIA A+ Essentials validates knowledge of basic computer hardware and operating systems, covering skills such as installation, building, upgrading, repairing, configuring, troubleshooting, optimizing, diagnosing and preventive maintenance, with additional elements of security and soft skills. The Essentials Exam validates the basic skills needed by any entry-level service technician regardless of job environment.
The CompTIA A+ 220-702 exam is targeted for individuals who work or intend to work in a mobile or corporate technical environment with a high level of face-to-face client interaction. Examples job roles include: Enterprise Technician, IT Administrator, Field Service Technician, and PC Technician. Ideally, the CompTIA A+ 220-702 candidate has already passed the CompTIA A+ Essentials examination. Candidates who pass both CompTIA A+ Essentials and exam 220-702 will be CompTIA A+ certified with the IT Technician designation.
Students who satisfy the minimum pass level, for the above vendor exam(s), as defined by CompTIA at the time of taking the online exam, will be awarded the following:-
CompTIA A+ 2009 IT Technician Certification
And counts as credit toward the following certification(s):
Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA)

This six-day instructor-led course, includes self-paced and instructor-facilitated components. This course teaches students, through lectures, discussions, scenarios, demonstrations, chapter review questions, textbook exercises, and labs
On-line exam preparation and assessment with MeasureUP test practice system.
This course is available to study in evening sessions only.
What qualifications will I get?
Vocational study not leading to a recognised qualification, Information and Communication Technology (SSA 6)
How will I be assessed?
There is no formal examination required; however students may take the external CompTIA examination, typically two weeks from end of each stage of the course.
Examinations must be taken at our in-house Authorised Prometric testing centre (APTC) at Specialist IT Training, Solihull College. APTC Site code GB3K.
Students will be assessed by CompTIA certification exam(s):
Exam JK0-701 CompTIA A+ Essentials
Exam JK0-702: CompTIA A+ Practical Application
The course includes continual assessments.

What are the entry requirements?
This course is appropriate for individuals employed as or seeking a position as an IT technician or administrator.
The entry criteria for this course include individuals who are:
Preparing for the CompTIA A+ certification.
Preparing for the Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) or Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certifications.
Before attending this course, students should have:
3 GCSE's grade C or above, including Maths and English.
Students may be required to undertake an online skills assessment.

CompTIA A+ certification validates the latest skills needed by today's computer support professionals. It is an international, vendor-neutral certification recognized by major hardware and software vendors, distributors and resellers. CompTIA A+ confirms a technician's ability to perform tasks such as installation, configuration, diagnosing, preventive maintenance and basic networking. The exams also cover domains such as security, safety and environmental issues and communication and professionalism.
CompTIA A+ ensures the right people have the right skills. While many of the essential skills are universal, there are additional skills required to support the needs of businesses. By offering alternative validation paths for specific job scenarios, CompTIA A+ gives individuals the ability to grow their careers in a certain area, and employers the flexibility to choose the validation that best fits their needs.
