Birmingham Airport Skills Academy (BASA)

Solihull College is delighted to run the BASA in partnership with Birmingham Airport Limited. The BASA is an onsite training facility at Birmingham Airport.

This facility offers employees at the 150+ companies on site the opportunity to gain valuable qualifications which may assist with future opportunities as well as supporting business growth and efficiencies. Examples include management, customer service, engineering and many more.

The BASA also supports the local community by providing free of charge courses for people who are unemployed or on another primary benefit. These short four week courses give individuals the opportunity to gain aviation relevant qualifications and a real life experience of working on site.

The National Skills Academy for Retail

The Greater Birmingham Skills Shop, run by Solihull College in partnership with the NSA for Retail, is the West Midlands Retail Training & Development provider.

The National Skills Academy for Retail provides access to consistent, high quality training for retail businesses, their employees and future workforce, delivered through a network of quality-marked retail skills shops.

As a member of the National Skills Academy for Retail, Solihull College is part of the UK's largest ever network of retail skills shops. This means that while our service will continue to meet the needs of our retailers and local community, the training on offer will be quality-marked and consistent across the country.

Our services include:

• Apprenticeships for both new recruits and to train existing staff.
• Work based learning (NVQ’s, QCF’s etc).
• Guide to Successful Retailing inspired by Mary Portas.
• World Host – Excellence in Customer Service.
• Specialist visual merchandising, buying and other training.

Solihull College is working hard to revive the recession-hit retail sector after being awarded National Skills Academy status for Retail in recognition of the high quality delivery of its training and support packages delivered to employers. The National Skills Academy for Sport and Active Leisure

As a member of the National Skills Academy for Sport and Active Leisure, with a specialism in Health and Fitness, the academy is the only training provider across the West Midlands to be accredited with this status. Being a nationally recognised provider of health and fitness training, the academy ensures it provides the highest quality training for businesses and individuals involved in sport and fitness to help them succeed.

Courses include:

CYQ programmes from Level 1 to Level 3 and across a variety of disciplines such as Exercise to Music, Exercise and Physical Activity for Children, Gym Instructor and Personal Training, amongst others.

Apprenticeship programmes including Level 2 Apprenticeship in Activity Leadership; Level 2 Apprenticeship in Leisure Operations; Level 2 and Level 3 Apprenticeship in Exercise and Fitness.
