Where will this course lead?

This course is ideal for you if you have completed a L1 Diploma in Carpentry & Joinery. It will build on your knowledge and develop your practical skills to an industry recognised level.

What will I study?

During the course you will study the following modules:

-Health & Safety
-Use of Bench Machinery
-Marking and setting out joinery work
-Producing bench joinery
-Developing practical skills
-Underpinning knowledge & good practice

Maths, English and IT will be an important part of your course. You will continue to develop these skills and may work towards a qualification at an appropriate level.

How will this course be delivered?

Half of this course involves practical assignments in the Carpentry workshop and the other half in the classroom. The Carpentry facilities consist of dedicated, industry standard training workshops and classrooms.

What qualifications will I get?

Level 2 Diploma in Bench Joinery (QCF)

How will I be assessed?

To pass this course you will have to successfully complete all practical and theory assessments and pass an on line end test. All assessments are carried out by qualified assessors to the required qualification standard.

How do I get a place on the course?

Apply on line at or at Student Services either at the Blossomfield Road or Woodlands Campus.

If successful, places are offered after interview and an assessment in Maths & English, which is carried out at the Construction Centre at Griffin Park

What are the entry requirements?

To get onto the course you will need the pre-requisite of either:

- Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry & Joinery
- Relevant Woodworking and Joinery experience.

You will also need a suitable reference and interview.

You will be required to provide safety boots and appropriate clothes to wear in the workshop.

What can I do after this course?

If you successfully pass this course you can apply to progress on to the NVQ 2 in wood occupations or a Level 3 Diploma course.

Learners who have a high standard of attendance and have demonstrated a positive attitude can be recommended for any available apprenticeships.
