Where will this course lead?

CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator) enables you to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators or access Higher Education This Level 3 Diploma course carries the Early Years Educator status and is essential if you wish to work in different early years services, such as, Children's Centre worker, Early Years Educator, Private Nanny, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Manager, Lead practitioner or Childminder. This is also an ideal qualification should you wish to access higher education programmes such as teaching (QTS), Early Years Professional (EYPS), nursing or social work. The course carries a maximum of 420 UCAS points (A*/9 grade)

What will I study?

You will study all aspects of children's care, play, learning and development:

-Child development from conception to seven years
-Children’s health and well-being
-Providing safe environments for children
-Child health
-Play and learning
-Understanding children’s additional needs
-Observation, assessment and planning
-Professional Practice Portfolio

This qualification prepares you to become an Early Years Educator, enabling you to work with children from birth to five and gain knowledge of children aged five to seven. You will need to undertake practical placements, as an important part of the assessment process involves evaluating skills in real working situations.

To pass this qualification you will need to pass all units, All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. All units are graded A*/9 - D/3. You must also complete an Effective Practice Study Task (externally set, externally marked) and one Extended Assessment Task (externally set, externally marked).

How will this course be delivered?

This course is college based with assessed work based practice. You will be in college for 3 days per week and assessed work practice 2 days per week

How will I be assessed?

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. All units are graded A*/9 - D/3.

Learners taking the Diploma must also complete an Effective Practice Study Task and one Extended Assessment Task (externally set, externally marked).

You will need to pass your professional practice unit which comprises. 800 hours of assessed work practice with children in following ranges 0 -1 year, 2-4 years and 4-7 years in Nursery, Primary School and Special Needs

How do I get a place on the course?

Places are offered by interview depending on your predicted grades and a good reference from your current tutor. You may also be tested for your English and Maths skills.

What are the entry requirements?

Five GCSEs at Grade C/3 or above (to include English and Maths) plus a minimum of 2 other academic subjects. (You must be aged between 16 and 19 to enrol on this course)

You will have a positive school or college reference with good levels of attendance and punctuality. Experience of working with children e.g. babysitting, or nursery experience would be very useful.

What else do I need to know?

All students working with children will need to have an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Check; this may affect your application. Please discuss this with your interviewing tutor.
You need to bring pen, notebooks and folders to every lesson. It is expected that you will bring a memory stick to save and back up your work.

Educational trips are part of our course and students will be expected to contribute towards them, this must be paid at enrolment.
You will also need to provide costs for text books, a uniform for college and work placement.

What can I do after this course?

You may progress to Higher Education, including our HND in Advanced Practice in Work with Children and Families or Foundation Degree in Early Years Services. You may also progress to degree programmes such as Bachelor of education (BEd). teaching (QTS*), Early Years Teacher (EYT) Early Year Childhood Studies*, nursing, social work, psychology
If you chose to have a break before continuing your studies you may choose to go to work as:
Children's Centre worker, Nursery Nurse, Private Nanny, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Children's Health Care assistant or as a Childminder.
*If you wish to progress to Initial Teacher Training or EYT you must have Mathematics, English and a science subject at GCSE Grade C or above
