Where will this course lead?

The aim of this qualification is to prepare learners to work with children between birth and five years with knowledge of children up to seven years or to progress on to the NCFE CACHE Level 3 qualifications.

What will I study?

Theme 1- introducing the role of the early years practitioner
Theme 2- Legislation, framework and professional practice
Theme 3- Play, development and learning for school readiness
Theme 4- Professional development
Plus 2 Optional units

This qualification prepares you to become an Early Years Educator, enabling you to work with children from birth to five and gain knowledge of children aged five to seven. You will need to undertake practical placements, as an important part of the assessment process involves evaluating skills in real working situations.
To pass this qualification you will need to pass all units, All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods.

How will this course be delivered?

This course is college based with assessed work based practice. You will be in college for 3 day a week and assessed work practice 1 days per week plus block weeks in placement during the year.

What qualifications will I get?

NCFE CACHE Level 2 An introduction to early years education and care.

How will I be assessed?

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. All units are graded pass or fail.
Learners will also engage in 250 hours of placement hours where they will be assessed by a qualified assessor against criteria written within the qualification.

How do I get a place on the course?

Places are offered by interview depending on your experience, grades and a good reference.
You may also be tested for your English and Maths skills.

What are the entry requirements?

You will be required to have a full level 2 qualification, and have evidence for English and Maths.

What else do I need to know?

All students working with children will need to have an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Check; this may affect your application. Please discuss this with your interviewing tutor.

You need to bring pen, notebooks and folders to every lesson. It is expected that you will bring a memory stick to save and back up your work.
You will also need to provide costs for text books, a polo shirt for work placement during the course. You should allow £70 to cover these.

What can I do after this course?

If you chose to have a break before continuing your studies you may choose to go to work as:
Children's Centre worker, Nursery practitioner, Private Nanny, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Children's Health Care assistant or as a Childminder.

*If you wish to progress to Initial Teacher Training or EYT you must have Mathematics, English and a science subject at GCSE Grade C or above
