Our Level 2 Apprenticeship Programme enables you to learn the skills and gain the qualifications of your chosen profession, whilst working and earning at the same time.
If you feel a qualification with an ‘earn as you learn' capacity, in this sector would be more suited to you then this apprenticeship will give you the qualifications to work under supervision within an early learning/childcare setting, caring for young children.
You will study all aspects of children's care learning and development, including:
- Understand Child and Young Person Development,
- Context and Principles for Early Years Provision,
- Promote the well being and resilience of children and young people,
- Support children and young people to achieve their education potential.
This course is employment based with college attendance. You will be in college for 1 session per week and work for a minimum of 16 hours per week.
Certificate for the Children and Young People's Workforce (QCF)
Work based assessments and classroom based study. Assessment is via assignments and course work.
Places are offered by interview depending on your employment status, good reference from your employer and an assessment of your English and Maths skills.
A minimum of 16 hours paid employment in a relevant childcare and education setting working with children aged 0 -5
GCSEs at Grade D/4 or above (English and Maths) or Level 1 key skills in Communication and numeracy)
You will have a positive reference with good levels of attendance and punctuality.
Your employer will be asked to support your progress by participating in regular reviews, training you in the workplace and ensuring you meet the induction standards required by the Sector Skills Council - Children's Workforce Development Council.
You will be need to provide all basic stationery including pens, pencils, paper, plastic wallets, folders plus any additional stationery which is required for your course.
You will also need to provide costs for text books.
Good levels of English and Maths are important for your success in your course, your chosen vocation and life. Throughout your course you will continue to develop your English and Maths skills in your vocational classes.
If you haven't achieved an A*/9 - C/4 grade in English or Maths at GCSE, or a Level 2 Functional Skill, you will also be working towards a qualification in English or Maths at a level that will enable you to progress towards these grades.

You may apply to progress to a level 3 Apprenticeship which enables you to work as a Children's Centre worker, Early Years' Practitioner, Nursery Nurse, Private Nanny, or Childminder.
