This course will teach basic skills in digital photography, film making, animation and editing that will build the foundation for students to progress onto the Level 2 Creative Media Production course.
You will be studying 11 Units over 1 academic year, focusing on areas of Video Production, Digital Photography and gaining employment in the media industry. Assessment will come through performance in class, on location and completion of assignments.
Examples of Units and projects you will be studying are:
-Developing Multimedia Products
-Editing techniques - for editing film/audio projects.
-Jobs in the Media
-Video Production linked to editing and audio techniques "Film Trailer"
-Audio Production - 'Radio Advertisements'
The course will be delivered on site, although students will be expected to do some film work off campus either during class time or in own time. You will be expected to do research and homework outside of class time and you may need to use the editing suites outside of class time.
Please note: For September 2017 all current BTEC qualifications are being revised and some content may change.
You must complete all 11 Units over the 1 academic year programmes in order to achieve the full Diploma. Most Units have 4 credits attached to them. You need to achieve a minimum of 37 credits in total.
Assessment is via practical assignments, course work, presentations and class work in each unit.
Applicants must have an interest in media. Submit an application to the college. Primary interview, attending open/taster day.
To apply for a place on this course, you such possess qualifications at Entry level 3, including English and Maths. You should have an interest in the Media, be able to work in a team as well as stick to tight deadlines and schedules. You will need to bring evidence of your original certificates at Induction.
You do not need to have any previous media experience, although this is desirable. You should be passionate about visual media.

You do not need to purchase any specialist equipment, as it will all be provided for you. However, you will need stationery and a memory stick for your academic work.
If you pass this course, then you may be able to continue studying at Level 2, if you have successfully met the course requirements.
You will leave the course with a range of skills desirable to employers, such as communication skills, report writing, working to deadline and working with others.
