Do you wish to follow a career in machining or maintenance engineering? Our Level 1 Diploma in Engineering will give you the foundation skills and knowledge necessary to apply your trade to the world of work through practical experience and expert tuition from those in the industry.
The main topics to be studied will include:
- Working Safely in an engineering environment
- Developing skills in the planning and manufacture of mechanical and electrical components including bench work and lathes
- Routine servicing of mechanical equipment
- Working in teams
- Producing and reading of engineering drawings
Half of this course involves practical assignments in both the mechanical and electrical workshops and the other half is in the classroom.
The mechanical and electrical facilities consist of standard hand tools, lathes, milling machines, Pillar drills, wiring bays and electrical circuit assembly and soldering bays.
Diploma in Engineering (QCF)
To pass this course you will need to complete both the practical and written assignments set by the tutors. There are no exams as part of the course.
Places are offered by interview and a screening test.
Minimum of 2 GCSEs at Grade E/2 or above to include Maths and English, a suitable reference and a successful interview.
You will need to provide overalls and safety footwear as well as pens, paper and a scientific calculator.
Good levels of English and Maths are important for your success in your course, your chosen vocation and life. Throughout your course you will continue to develop your English and Maths skills in your vocational classes.
If you haven't achieved an A*/9 - C/4 grade in English or Maths at GCSE, or a Level 2 Functional Skill, you will also be working towards a qualification in English or Maths at a level that will enable you to progress towards these grades.
