The Higher Apprenticeship framework for Advanced Manufacturing Engineering at Level 4 has been designed to provide the manufacturing and engineering sector with high grade
technicians and engineers who have practical skills, combined with a higher education qualification. The framework will facilitate seamless progression from level 4 to level qualifications and enable apprentices to work towards Incorporated Engineer status.
The Mechanical Pathway is designed for roles within Advanced Manufacturing including:
- Manufacturing Senior Technician
- Senior Controls Technician (Mechanical Testing)
- Senior Production Technician
- Senior Quality Technician
This apprenticeship is formed of two qualifications
The technical qualifications can be selected from the following pathways
- Pearson HNC Diploma Manufacturing Engineering OR
- Pearson HNC Diploma Mechanical Engineering OR
- Pearson HNC Diploma General Engineering OR
The vocational qualification is a Level 4 NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering Manufacture with units chosen in consultation with your employer.
These courses are delivered through classroom teaching and practical workshops.
You will also be allocated an assessor who will visit you in the workplace to support the development of the evidence required for the NVQ level 4.
Higher Level Apprenticeship in Manufacturing Engineering (Mechanical)
All modules are assessed by assignments; each unit's assessment is matched to the content of the unit. Each unit can be assessed at Pass, Merit or Distinction levels, which are combined at the end of the qualification to give an overall grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction for the technical qualification.

In order to optimise success candidates will typically have 5 GCSE's at Grade C/4 or above, including Mathematics, English and a Science, Technology or Engineering related subject, as well as an A Level at grade C or above in a related subject, or 90+ credits in an Engineering BTEC. However, exceptional candidates or those with experience in engineering can be considered on a case by case basis.
