Where will this course lead?

The Intermediate apprentice program is ideal for those wishing to further their career within the Barbering industry

What will I study?

You will study a combination of units that will develop practical skills as well as providing theory to improve knowledge and understanding

- Advise and consult with clients
- Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
- Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
- Cut Men's Hair Using Basic Techniques
- Cut Facial Hair to Shape Using Basic Techniques
-Dry and Finish Men's Hair
Create Basic Outlines and Detailing in Hair

In addition you will develop valuable skills in English and Maths

How will this course be delivered?

The apprenticeship combines college day release at our Woodlands campus, regular one to one tutorials in the workplace, independent study and ‘on the job’ learning. You will benefit from ongoing support and guidance from your assessor and will have 24/7 access to your online portfolio. You may be required to attend Functional Skills workshops for Maths and English depending on your previous achievements.

What qualifications will I get?

Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Barbering
Award in Employment Awareness in the Hair and Beauty Sector
Level 1 Functional Skills English
Level 1 Functional Skills Maths

How will I be assessed?

Your assessor / tutor will support you to showcase your work in an easy to use e-portfolio. A range of methods will be chosen to assess your vocational knowledge and competence and may include: observations, professional discussions, verbal or written questions, assignments, presentations, work products, reflective accounts, witness testimonies and more!

Functional Skills are assessed via examination – tests are booked throughout the year on demand.

How do I get a place on the course?

Interview and initial assessment

In order to get a place on the course you need to have secured an apprenticeship position with an employer. Apprenticeship vacancies are advertised on our website and you can follow the instructions to apply online. The vacancies provide detailed information about the employer, the job role, location, hours of work and salary/benefits.

What are the entry requirements?

A minimum D/3 grade and above in English and Math’s.
Working 30 hours a week or more

What else do I need to know?

The Intermediate apprenticeship in Barbering is a rolling programme this means that you can join us at any time of the year

All of our barbering qualifications are completed through VTCT which is an industry recognised awarding body.
The college hairdressing/barbering benefits from having its own, professional salon that is open to the public and staffed by students.

What can I do after this course?

On completion of the course learners can progress onto the Advanced Barbering apprentice
