Where will this course lead?

This course is ideal for you if are interested in learning about the Media.
This involves an interest in digital media which includes news, photography, television and film, sound production and comics and graphic novels. It can lead to L3 courses in the college for the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media or a L3 Sub-Diploma in Radio as a pathway.

This course is ideal for you if you have recently left school and wish to follow a career in the media or creative industry. You need to show an awareness of the media and read newspapers, magazines and watch a variety of television programmes.

This year we have had three vocational trips which have included visit to Countdown Studios to be a live audience for the live recordings in the new TV studios at MediaCity in Salford Manchester. Then we have had a trip to Nostalgia and Comics which is a specialist comic shop in heart of the city Birmingham and for Film Education we have has attended a free screening at Cineworld cinema in Touchwood Solihull.

Maths and English will be an important part of your course. You will continue to develop these skills and may work towards a qualification at an appropriate level. Our students work towards English GCSE Grade C and Functional skills in Maths at an appropriate level.

Good levels of English and Maths are important for your success in your course, your chosen vocation and life. Throughout your course you will continue to develop your English and maths skills in your vocational classes. If you haven't achieved an A*-C grade in English or maths at GCSE, or a level 2 Functional Skill you will also be working towards a qualification in English or maths at a level that will enable you to progress towards these grades.

How will this course be delivered?

Half of this course involves practical assignments in making media products for audiences. The other half is theory. The media facilities consist of digital video and photographic equipment and Adobe Premier editing suit.

How will I be assessed?

To pass this course you will need to pass all units.

What are the entry requirements?

Two GCSEs at Grade D/3, which must include English, a successful interview and a good reference from your school.

If you have a learning difficulty or disability, please let us know when you apply. You will be offered support in your interview. If you need help completing your application we can help with this too.

What else do I need to know?

You do not need a previous qualification in the media, however, it is important that you show excellent interest and engagement with the media once you start the course.

We also like to have 100% attendance and punctuality from you, as we are preparing you for employability.

What can I do after this course?

If you are successful on this course, you will be able to continue studying towards Level 3 in Media or the Level 3 Sub-Diploma in Radio, subject to interview and reference.
