IT
Our IT qualifications run at two levels:
ITQ level 1 –
Introduction
This qualification is suitable for all age groups who wish to access and develop their skills in ICT for education, employment and recreation. The course will focus on the skills required to help improve or gain employment in an office environment where everyday computing skills are required.
What will be covered in the course?
To achieve this qualification, candidates must achieve 9 credits made up of 3 units from the following:
- Word Processing
- Software
- Spreadsheet
- Software Database
- Software Presentation
- Using Email
- Using the Internet
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, however a basic understanding and application of computing is essential.
What qualification(s) can be gained?
ITQ Level 1 Award
How is the course assessed?
Three practical examinations taken over the academic year are undertaken at the centre and assessed by the course tutors.
Introduction
This qualification is suitable for all age groups who wish to access and develop their skills in ICT for education, employment and recreation. This course is designed to give you more advanced practical skills in using Information Technology applications.
What will be covered in the course?
Mandatory unit: Improving productivity using IT Plus the following units: Presentation software Word Processing software Spreadsheet software

Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, however a good understanding and application of computing is essential or ideally you should hold a level 1 IT qualification
What qualification(s) can be gained?
ECDL Extra - ITQ Level 2 Certificate IT User Skills
How is the course assessed?
Four practical examinations taken over the academic year are undertaken at the centre and assessed by the course tutors.
Conflict Resolution
Conflict Resolution is a fully funded course which looks at:
- Understanding behaviour
- Choosing appropriate language to suit the situation
- Using business English in the context of resolving conflict
- Planning and writing information reports, formal letters and effective emails
- Exploring strategies for managing conflict and developing self awareness
The course is demand lead and runs several times throughout the year. Entry is subject to an initial assessment. The course will result in a multiple choice exam and a qualification at level 2 in English.
English workshop
Our English Workshop is an ideal way to refresh skills and gain a qualification. The workshops look at current methods and using English is ‘real life’ situations. This course runs on a rolling programme with no specific start or end date.
Participants will be asked to complete a multiple choice exam at the end of the course, leading to a qualification in English.
Maths workshop
– new from January 2011!
Our Maths workshop is n ideal way to refresh maths skills and gain a qualification. The course will look at:
- Revisiting the basics
- Applying maths skills at work and at home
- Working out discounts
- Making more sense of your personal finances
- Speeding up your mental arithmetic
- Discovering ways to make calculations easier
- Helping your children with their homework
The course is demand lead and will run several times throughout the year. Entry is subject to an initial assessment. The course will result in a multiple choice exam and a qualification at level 2 in Maths. The Maths class will start on Thursday 20th January from 10.00am – 12.00pm.
