Curtis Cup Call-up for College Golf Star
Solihull College student is selected to represent Great Britain and Ireland in the 36th Curtis Cup.
Rachel Jennings, a second year student on the College’s England Golf AASE ( Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence), has been called up to compete in the prestigious tournament against the USA next month.
Rachel is no stranger to this level of competition having represented GB & Ireland in the Vagliano Trophy against the Continent of Europe last year. She comments: “I’m thrilled to have been selected for the Curtis Cup team, it’s another significant achievement in my career and I hope to put in some good performances.”
The AASE Academy gives students the chance to combine an academic qualification with a practical coaching programme. Rachel is in no doubt that the course has helped her to develop: “My golf schedule over the last 18 months has been quite intense but my College tutors have been really supportive and helped me to fit my studies perfectly around my practical training. It’s helped me plan where I want my career to go next and how to fulfil the goals that I have set myself.”
AASE Academy Manager at the College, Andrew Schneider, is proud of Rachel’s achievements: “Rachel is a fantastic ambassador for what the AASE stands for. It provides an opportunity for the best sporting talent in the country to access the best support network while still being able to work towards formal qualifications.”
The College is now recruiting for students to start the AASE programme this September. To register for the next Golf Information Evening at Solihull College call the Admissions team on 0121 678 7000.
