Where will this course lead?
This course is for candidates who want to improve their knowledge of exercise, fitness, health and well-being. It is an excellent choice for candidates who want to begin a career in the health and fitness industry, but need to develop the knowledge and skills prior to undertaking a qualification at level 2.

Health, Safety, and Welfare in the Fitness Environment
How will this course be delivered?
Approximately half of the course is delivered in the classroom to explore the principles of anatomy and physiology, exercise and fitness, and nutrition. The remaining part of the course is spent in the college's well equipped gym exploring the techniques for each piece of equipment, and the role of the Fitness Instructor.
What qualifications will I get?
Award in Fitness and Physical Activity (QCF)
How will I be assessed?
Multiple choice exam paper.
Assessed worksheets.
Observation of instructing skills in the gym environment.
How do I get a place on the course?
Applications should be made via the Exercise and Fitness Application Pack available from the College Call Centre. You will then be invited in for an interview and screening test for the course you have chosen.
What are the entry requirements?
Applicants should have a keen interest in using the gym on a regular basis.
Good communication skills are essential.
Applicants must be 16 years old to join the course.
What else do I need to know?
Successful applicants will be required to purchase course manuals and a polo shirt. The polo shirt is worn as uniform when in college. Successful applicants are also expected to provide appropriate exercise clothing to wear in the gym.
Solihull College offers full time and part time courses for businesses and residents in Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry Warwickshire and the whole of the West Midlands.
What can I do after this course?
You will be able to progress on to the Level 2 Gym Instructor courses which provide the minimum qualification required to work in the health and fitness industry.
