Czech it out . . .
Solihull College students head to Eastern Europe as part of top international project.
Five lucky Sports students enjoyed a trip to the Czech Republic recently after being chosen to represent England in this year’s Comenius Sport Project – an EU initiative to bring young people from different countries together to explore sports culture throughout Europe.
Joining students from the Netherlands, Norway, Germany, France, Bulgaria and Portugal, the group spent four days exploring different aspects of the sport sector, from funding and marketing to negative issues surrounding the industry such as football hooliganism.
The group led a presentation about sport in England and also took part in a host of activities during their stay including Go Karting and Ice Hockey – the Czech Republic’s most popular sport.
The group, who are all second year Sports students were impressed with the trip: “We were really pleased to be asked to take part, it was such an eye opening experience. Not only did we find out more about sport in other countries but we also learned about different cultures from people our own age which was great. It was nerve racking doing a presentation for people of different nationalities but the feedback we had was positive which made it all worthwhile.”
Paul Virgo, one of the College’s tutors to accompany the students said: “This initiative gives young people from across Europe the chance to explore different cultures in a fun and safe environment. I’m really proud of our students, they were really eager to learn from the other groups and gave a very effective presentation of their own.”
