Solihull College recognises the importance of continued professional development for those working in the school environment; so much so, we currently have over 500 school support personnel undertaking vocational training courses.

In these instances, no college attendance is required. Their job roles include cleaners, site managers, admin & office staff, finance officers, cover supervisors, catering, lunchtime supervisors, teaching assistants, mentors and play workers.

Courses relevant to all those working in schools include:

• Essential Skills in literacy & numeracy
• Support Work in Schools
• Apprenticeships (aged 16 – 24) and Adult Apprenticeships (aged 25+)
• NVQs – in Children’s Care, Learning & Development, Playwork, Teaching Assistant, Team Leading, Management, Business Admin, Customer Service, Cleaning, Catering & Hospitality and more
• Short courses in Mentoring, Counselling, First Aid, Occupational Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity and more
• One day taught programmes in Management & Supervision, Personal Development, Admin & Office Skills etc
• IT courses e.g. one day immediate impact in the Microsoft Office disciplines e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook through to CLAIT, ECDL, Dreamweaver and more
• Management & Professional qualifications e.g. CIPD, ILM, AAT
• Foundation Degrees in Early Years and Classroom Support in association with Oxford Brookes University
• HNC & HND Business, Practice in Work with Children & Families
• Business & Management BA (Hons).

Work / Life Balance

We also recognise the importance of work life balance; to support this, we offer holistic therapies and relaxation techniques, along with assertiveness training, stress management, time management programmes and more.

Wherever possible, Solihull College will seek out funding to support your chosen course; for example, Train to Gain funding could provide the opportunity to finance your first level 2 or level 3 NVQ, underpinned by Essential Skills training as required, at no cost to candidate or employer.
