Where will this course lead?
This course is aimed at those wishing to expand their career as an electrician. It provides a broad range of interrelated subjects based on the City & Guilds Electrical Installation certification scheme and gives the underpinning knowledge required for NVQ3. All work is carried out in fully equipped site simulated conditions.
What will I study?
Unit 301-Application of health and safety and electrical principles.
Unit 302-Installation (Buildings and Structures): inspection, testing and commissioning.
Unit 303-Installation (Buildings and Structures): fault diagnosis and rectification.
Maths, English and IT are an important part of your course. You will continue to develop these skills and may work towards a qualification at an appropriate level.
How will this course be delivered?
Some of this course involves practical aspects in a real workshop with simulated inspection tasks and the other half is theory taught in the classroom.
The Electrical installation workshop allows students to simulate testing, inspection and fault finding scenarios.
What qualifications will I get?
Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology
How will I be assessed?
To pass this course you will study the theoretical knowledge as well as the practical skills needed to develop the basis of competence for any candidate to attain the requirements of the awarding body towards the NVQ Diploma level 3.
Methods of assessment:
Practical assignments.
Written exams.
Multi-choice on line exams
How do I get a place on the course?
Places are offered by interview and a screening test conducted by the tutors.
What are the entry requirements?
Either 4 GCSE passes at Grade A-C to include Maths and Science, or a Level 2 Diploma in a relevant level 2 engineering programme at Merit or Distinction, also a good reference or latest school report and a successful interview.

Personal protective equipment is required to comply with Health & Safety when working in the workshops, such as:

Steel toe capped safety boots

What can I do after this course?
This course will give you both the skills and the confidence to enter employment in all areas of electrical installation, including working as a domestic, commercial, industry, maintenance in repair and heating/ventilation. Alternatively, it will prepare you for continuing study in related subjects such as the City & Guilds 2357 Level 3 NVQ Diploma/apprenticeship with a relevant work placement.
