Where will this course lead?
This course is for candidates who want to work in the health and fitness industry. You will develop the knowledge and skills for working as a Fitness Instructor.
What will I study?
Anatomy and Physiology
Principles of Exercise and Fitness
Planning, instructing, and evaluating a gym based exercise session.
Health, Safety, and Welfare in the Fitness Environment
Worksheets.
How will this course be delivered?
Approximately half of the course is delivered in the classroom to ensure a good theoretical understanding of anatomy and physiology and exercise and fitness. The remaining part of the course is spent in the college's well equipped gym exploring the techniques for each piece of equipment.
What qualifications will I get?
Certificate in Fitness Instructing (QCF)
How will I be assessed?
Multiple choice exam papers.
A portfolio of written gym plans.
Observation of instructing skills in the gym environment.
Worksheets.
How do I get a place on the course?
Applications should be made via the Exercise and Fitness Application Pack available from the College Call Centre. You will then be invited in for an interview and screening test for the course you have chosen.
What are the entry requirements?
Applicants should have a keen interest in using the gym on a regular basis.
Good communication skills are essential.
Applicants must be 18 years old to join the course.

What else do I need to know?
Successful applicants will be required to purchase course manuals and a polo shirt. The polo shirt is worn as uniform when in college. Successful applicants are also expected to provide appropriate exercise clothing to wear in the gym.

What can I do after this course?
You will be able to begin working as a Fitness Instructor in the health and fitness environment.
You will be able to study towards additional exercise and fitness qualifications to improve your teaching skills and employability options, e.g. Circuit Training, Studio Resistance
