Where will this course lead?
This course is ideal for you if you are aged 16 or more, normally the course is made up of younger students. The course leads to careers in Administration, Retail and business.
This course is ideal for you if you want a practical introduction to business, administration and finance. The course is designed to offer a taster of what it would be like to work in one of these areas and you will learn new skills by attending work experience within a local business.
What will I study?
You will be studying keys areas including:
Developing business idea similar to the dragons den concept.
Customer service and retail in general.
Business administration including emails, letters and memos.
Teamwork and developing the communication methods.
Interviews and career planning.
Developing yourself and investigating your finances.
Project of your choice.
Maths, English and IT are an essential part of your course and you will work towards a qualification at an appropriate level.
How will this course be delivered?
Students will carry out practical work individually, in small groups using computers for written and research work.
What qualifications will I get?
Principal Learning in Business, Administration and Finance
How will I be assessed?
AQA Foundation Diploma in Business, Administration and Finance Level 1
Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT at an appropriate level.
To pass this course you will be assessed via practical assignments, course work and external exams in administration, ICT, Maths and English
Although you may be given homework the coursework is completed in the classroom.
How do I get a place on the course?
Places are offered by interview with the course tutors. There is also a taster day in early September to allow you to experience the course as well before committing.
What are the entry requirements?
There are no formal qualifications required it depends upon experience and attitude. No past experience of using computers is required but is an advantage if you have used Word Processing packages in particular. Depending upon your qualifications / experience a diagnostic test in English and Maths may be used to check that you have the skills needed.
If you have Learning Difficulty or Disability please let us know when you apply. You will be offered support in your interview. If you need help completing your application we can help with this too.
What else do I need to know?
You need to bring pen, notebooks and folders to every lesson. It is expected that you will bring a memory stick to save and back up your work. As part of the course you will be expected to take part in the business trips eg Cadbury.

What can I do after this course?
The majority of students who are successful on this course progress onto level 2 courses in other business areas.
Is there anything else I will have to pay for in order to do this course?
A £45 one off payment is required to cover all vocationally relevant trips, you will expected to attend all lessons with pen, paper, rule and calculator.
