Where will this course lead?
The course aims to equip students with the knowledge, technical expertise and professional skills that will enhance their prospects of gaining employment in the information technology industry or to enable them to continue their education to Degree level in a related discipline.

Maths, English and IT will be an important part of your course. You will continue to develop these skills and may work towards a qualification at an appropriate level.
How will this course be delivered?
This is a two-year programme commencing in late September every year at Blossomfield Campus. All enrolled candidates will be invited in one week before the course commences for an induction week.
What qualifications will I get?
BTEC HND Diploma in Computing and Systems Development (QCF)
How will I be assessed?
Students are mainly assessed by a combination of coursework, on-line exams and written exams depending on the module requirements. The majority of the assessment is individual; however there are opportunities within some modules for group activities.
How do I get a place on the course?
To start the application process you will need to register with UCAS via the UCAS website (www.ucas.co.uk) and you will need to use the following UCAS codes on your application: Institution code: S26 and Course code: 005G.
The relevant course tutor interviews all students before being accepting on the programme, being part of the Institution's policy. In assessing such applications, consideration will be given to the applicant's ability to successfully complete a course, the nature of any additional support that may be required and how it may be provided.
What are the entry requirements?
The minimum expected requirements would be:
BTEC Extended Diploma in Computer Studies at MMM profile, plus 3 GCSE's (or level 2 equivalents) in English, Maths and another subject.
Access course with a minimum of 60 credits: (45 at level 3 and 15 at level 2).
240 UCAS Tariff points (from appropriate qualifications at level 3). See UCAS link to Tariff tables
Mature students, who do not meet these academic qualifications, will have relevant work or life experience taken into consideration. All students need to be able to demonstrate competency in English and Maths, possess suitable references and have a successful College interview."

What else do I need to know?
Throughout the program you will undertake a Personal Development Plan (PDP) to track your progress through the course.
This course also offers students the opportunity to study additionality1 where students are encouraged to work towards vendor specific qualifications within their program of study, such as MCTS, MCAS (Microsoft Certified Technology / Application Specialist). Other specialised qualifications may also be studied such as the CISCO CCENT (Cisco Certified Entry) or CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) awards. Some of the content of these modules is covered in the HND program and are supported by e-learning. Other vendor specific qualifications may also be studied via e-learning on request.
Solihull College offers full time and part time courses for businesses and residents in Birmingham, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Coventry Warwickshire and the whole of the West Midlands.
What can I do after this course?
Progress on to Degree courses within computing or related subjects is accepted at most Universities. To progress directly to stage 3 of the Honours Degree course in Business Information Technology or Business Information Systems at Coventry University a student must normally have gained a HND in BIT or BIS including passing all H2 modules with at least a merit.
Students who do not meet these criteria but have gained a HND in BIT or BIS and have merits in at least four H2 modules will be required to successfully engage in a short bridging programme before joining stage 3 of the corresponding Honours Degree course at Coventry University. The programme will provide the students with guidance and support and the opportunity to demonstrate that they have achieved merit level in the two H2 modules in which they have fallen short.
Students who do not reach the standards described above but who have gained a HND in BIT or BIS may join stage 2 of the corresponding Honours Degree course at Coventry University.
Is there anything else I will have to pay for in order to do this course?
All applicants must now apply directly to Student Finance England, they can either email them on www.direct.gov.uk/studentfinance or call them on 0845 300 50 90 to obtain the form they need for the loan.
International students should apply direct to the College's Centre for International Studies: Fees available on request.
In respect of some of the additionality modules, there may be costs for learning materials, assessment fees and in some instances tuition fees.
