Where will this course lead?
This course is ideal for you if you have recently completed a prior National Diploma in Graphic Design course at Level 3 or Foundation course with a chosen Graphics specialism. The course is also suitable for students from an Access to Graphic Design Level 3 course where skills have been gained to be able to study at higher level. The course will lead to entry into the Professional Industry of Graphic Design and Advertising. Students completing this programme will also be able to apply for a higher study at an external organisation at BA or degree level in a chosen specialism.

A total of 16 units will be delivered on the course across two years of study. A qualification is achieved with a minimum of 16 units at pass grade.
How will this course be delivered?
The course is delivered over two years of study full time, in the first year of the programme you will be learning skills on Typography, Visualising and Developing ideas traditionally, Illustration and Traditional drawing skills as well as Historical study. Further units in Advertising and Computer Development are integrated into the first year of the programme. In the second year of the course units that relate to Industry practice are covered and areas such as Corporate Identity, Art Direction, Packaging and Editorial Design are covered.
What qualifications will I get?
BTEC HND Diploma in Graphic Design (QCF)
How will I be assessed?
To pass this course you will be required to submit 16 units of work for assessment over the two years of the course. Assessment is via practical assignment work, presentations and essays. All course work is assessed throughout the year and grades feedback to students at the end of the assignment. These grades are subject to internal and external IV process and submission to exam board. Summative assessment and portfolio reviews happen at the end of each year of the programme when work assessed is externally verified by an external examiner.
How do I get a place on the course?
To start the application process you will need to register with UCAS via the UCAS website (www.ucas.co.uk) and you will need to use the following UCAS codes on your application: Institution code: S26 and Course code:012W. Places are offered by interview and at interview you will be required to bring a current portfolio of work completed on a previous course of study relevant to the qualification being studied.
What are the entry requirements?
Level 3 National Diploma or Extended Diploma in Graphic Design at Merit profile.?
Level 3 Access to Graphic Design at Merit profile.
Foundation Diploma in Art and Design.
A creative portfolio of work will be required at interview. ?
Mature students, who do not meet these academic qualifications, will have relevant work or life experience taken into consideration. All students need to be able to demonstrate competency in English and Maths, possess suitable references and have a successful College interview.
What else do I need to know?
During the course you will be required to go on external trips to visit galleries and exhibitions suitable for your area of study. At induction in September you will be given a materials list to purchase equipment you will need on the course during the two years of study.

What can I do after this course?
After completing the course it can lead into employment in the following areas: Graphic Design, Advertising, Magazine Design as well as higher level of study in Graphic Design, other specialist areas such as Illustration, Digital Media and Web Design can be studied after completion of the course to BA (HONS) or degree level at external organisations.
Is there anything else I will have to pay for in order to do this course?
As above you will be expected to go on trips and visits to expand learning opportunities and these will require a cost. Maiterials, Books and Equipment will need to also be purchased prior to starting the course, details will be given at induction.
