Where will this course lead?
The Higher National Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science is an ideal qualification for people who aspire to work in the health and fitness industry, sports coaching or education. The course combines theoretical study with the practical applications that are required in the field of sport and exercise science. Whilst studying on this course you will develop laboratory-based skills, employability skills, research techniques and the necessary underpinning knowledge for the application of these skills.
What will I study?
The first year will cover the underpinning knowledge required for the course, such as Anatomy and Physiology, Psychology, Skill Acquisition, PE, Training & Fitness as well as Research and Lab methods units.
The second year builds on the first year units and highlights the application of sport science. Units studied will be Nutrition, Psychology, Coaching, Sports Analysis, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics and Employability Skills as well as getting the opportunity for independent study in the dissertation module allowing learners to devise and experiment in their own area of interest.
How will this course be delivered?
The course will be delivered via lectures, seminars, group practicals, discussion forums and tutorials.
What qualifications will I get?
Level 5 HND Sport & Exercise Science (QCF)
How will I be assessed?
The BTEC is assessed through a range of assignment based activities, presentations and practical activities.
How do I get a place on the course?
To start the application process you will need to register with UCAS via the UCAS website (www.ucas.co.uk) and you will need to use the following UCAS codes on your application: Institution code: S26 and Course code:006C. Places are offered by interview.
What are the entry requirements?
4 GCSEs grade C or above to include English and Maths and at least one of:
A BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in sport or a related vocational area
A Level 3 NVQ in an appropriate vocational area
'A Level' in more than one relevant subject.
Other related Level 3 qualifications
An Access to Higher Education Certificate awarded by an approved further education

Mature learners may present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include extensive work experience (paid and/or unpaid) and/or achievement of a range of professional qualifications in their work sector. This will be reviewed at interview.
Applications are subject to a successful College interview.
Students with existing level 4/5 qualifications may be eligible for some accreditation for prior learning which can be discussed on an individual basis.
All students need to be able to demonstrate competency in English and Maths, possess suitable references and have a successful College interview.
What else do I need to know?
The course is full time Full Time, 9-5 (various), Year 1= Mon-Thurs, Year 2 Tues- Fri.

What can I do after this course?
Students who have studied this programme have progressed to the final year of an Honours Degree programme or entered the world of work in the following roles; exercise prescription, personal training, coaching, health and fitness, sports analysis, education and sport science support.
Is there anything else I will have to pay for in order to do this course?
There will be additional costs (Approx £100) for text books and kit which is compulsory for the course.
