HOLY COW! ART STUDENTS UNVEIL RESTAURANT SCULPTURE
A new steak restaurant has recruited its latest team member with the help of Art students at Solihull College. But guests shouldn’t expect a lot of conversation from him – it’s a life size model of a cow!
General Manager of Miller & Carter on Tanworth Lane, Sonya Coveney commissioned Art students at the College to design a sculpture which represents the animal from which the restaurant’s premium steaks are sourced.
A shortlist of miniature models were judged, and the favourite chosen to take pride of place at the restaurant.
Sonya said: “We were amazed at the creative way in which the students responded to the brief and it was an incredibly difficult task to select one winner. I am sure the cow will bring a smile to people’s faces when they come through the door!
“We were so impressed by the standard of entries that we also selected another design to be used in our Management training academy, which is where our team develop their expertise on the cuts and cooking processes involved in serving the perfect steak.”
Winning students, Ian Tongue (19) and Wawina Yamlalimbu (18), who are both studying for a BTEC National Diploma Art & Design: Fine Art, have both been presented with a meal for four at Miller & Carter and a Touchwood shopping voucher.
Ian said: “I am delighted that my sculpture has been chosen as the winning design and can’t wait to see the full size version in situ at the restaurant!
