Where will this course lead?
This course is ideal for you if you have been working in a legal department / firm or business for 3 years or more year or have already achieved the ILEX Certificate in Legal Secretaries at Level 2.
What will I study?
You will learn to create complex documents using both text and audio sources, and how to use office house styles and templates. You will also find out how to plan and coordinate an event and gain an understanding of the courts system. The syllabus also covers health and safety issues
Maths and English is not part of this course, it is assumed that your English skills are of a high standard e.g. Grade C or above at GCSE. If you do not have formal English qualifications then this can be discussed with the tutor at interview.
How will this course be delivered?
The course is delivered at college where your word and text processing skills, proof reading and business skills will be developed. You will independently research topics like the court structures and develop presentational and supervisory skills.
What qualifications will I get?
Certificate for Legal Secretaries (QCF)
How will I be assessed?
The creation and checking of complex legal documents is tested at three separate stages, each one is tested at College under the supervision of your tutor. You will be tested on your accuracy, speed and ability to proof read. Your business skills will be tested by one assignment that you undertake over a 6 week period.
How do I get a place on the course?
Places are offered by interview with the course tutors, this can be over the telephone or face to face depending upon what best suits your circumstances.
What are the entry requirements?
Entry is through either more than 3 years experience of working in a legal department as a secretary / administrator or having achieved the ILEX Legal Secretaries Certificate level 2. English Grade C is preferable, or a Literacy qualification at Level 2 though if you do not hold a formal English qualification then this will have to be discussed at interview.
What else do I need to know?
You need to bring pen, notebooks and folders to every lesson. It is expected that you will bring a memory stick to save and back up your work.

What can I do after this course?
Students who are successful on this course can access higher level professional qualifications dependent on their job role or further academic study on Degrees or Foundation Degrees. This would need to be discussed with your tutor as you progress with the course.
Is there anything else I will have to pay for in order to do this course?
Head phones will be used in a number of our units and students may prefer to bring their own.
