Where will this course lead?
This is an introductory programme for new mentors or those considering a mentoring role. The course offers the opportunity to consider the roles, purposes and skills of mentors and to develop personal practice. The course is a generic mentoring course, catering for people working with any age range and within education, industry or personal development roles.
What will I study?
You will examine relevant theories, key concepts and related issues e.g. boundaries, ethics, mentoring styles and stages, recording, planning and goal-setting models.
How will this course be delivered?
Teaching methods include case studies, discussion and group work, role play and skills practice.
What qualifications will I get?
Certificate in Progression (QCF)
How will I be assessed?
Questions focused around session content and a journal will be completed weekly outside class time enabling students to develop a portfolio of evidence, reflections on own practice and share their understanding of theory and issues.
How do I get a place on the course?
If you over 18 you can enrol directly onto the course. If you are 18 or under you will need to have a telephone interview with the Programme Co-ordinator prior to enrolling.
What are the entry requirements?
No prior experience of mentoring is necessary although prior or current contact with mentees will be helpful.
If you have a Learning Difficulty or Disability please let us know when you apply. You will be offered support in your interview. If you need help completing your application we can help with this too.
What else do I need to know?
The course is delivered using a range of practical activities and there is particular emphasis 1:1 working with peers to develop mentoring skills. Attendance at all sessions is therefore expected unless there are exceptional circumstances.
