Where will this course lead?
This course is ideal for you if you are interested in a career in Carpentry or Joinery. Ideally you will have some previous knowledge of the trade or can demonstrate some basic practical skills.

Maths, English and IT will be an important part of your course. You will continue to develop these skills and may work towards a qualification at an appropriate level.
How will this course be delivered?
Three quarters of this course involves practical assignments in the Carpentry workshop and the rest is in the classroom. The Carpentry facilities consist of dedicated, industry standard training workshops and classrooms.
What qualifications will I get?
Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery (QCF)
How will I be assessed?
To pass this course you will have to successfully complete all practical and theory assessments and pass an on line end test. All assessments are carried out by qualified assessors to the required qualification standard.
How do I get a place on the course?
Apply on line at www.solihull.ac.uk or at Student Services either at the Blossomfield Road or Woodlands Campus.
If successful, places are offered after interview and an assessment of your maths & english which is carried out at the Construction Centre at Griffin Park.
What are the entry requirements?
City & Guilds Level 1 Basic Construction Skills (or equivalent BTEC qualification)

What can I do after this course?
If you successfully pass this course you can apply to progress on to the L2 Diploma in Site carpentry or Bench Joinery.
Learners who have a high standard of attendance and have demonstrated a positive attitude can be recommended for any available apprenticeships.
Is there anything else I will have to pay for in order to do this course?
You will be required to provide safety boots and appropriate clothes to wear in the workshop.
