Where will this course lead?
On completion of the course you will gain a widely recognised Teaching Assistant qualification. The course is ideal for anyone who has already volunteered in schools or with experience of working with children or for those students who have completed the Introduction to Working with Children in Schools Award.
What will I study?
The course content encompasses all key stages. There are 9 mandatory units. These include:
Support learning activities.
Health and safety.
Provide displays in schools.
Support young children with additional needs.
How will this course be delivered?
Daytime and evening courses available. Daytime courses are one day a week for 5 hours. Evening courses are 1 day a week for 3 hours, with supplementary work to be undertaken independently at home.
A work placement is also required for 1 day per week for the duration of the course. Additional workshops at various times require compulsory attendance.
What qualifications will I get?
NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools
How will I be assessed?
Assessment will be made through a portfolio put together throughout the duration of the course, the work completed whilst on placement and on team work during taught sessions. There is also an externally set multiple choice examination which focuses on the three mandatory units, which takes place during the summer term.
How do I get a place on the course?

What are the entry requirements?
You must have GCSE Grade C or above in English or Maths, or the equivalent in Numeracy or Literacy. A commitment must be made to obtaining the other qualification during the academic year.
You must be aged 18 or over.
What else do I need to know?
In addition to attending the course, a placement will need to be secured and undertaken in an educational establishment for one day per week over the duration of the course. An observation takes place prior to the end of the placement.

What can I do after this course?
Many of our students go on to gain employment within schools. You can also further your qualifications through our NCFE Teaching Assistant Level 3 Diploma.
