Where will this course lead?

This course is ideal for you if you have completed a L1 Diploma in Painting & Decorating. It will build on your knowledge and develop your practical skills to an industry recognised level.

What will I study?

Health & Safety.
Hanging, preparation and finish wallpapers.
Solvent-borne and water-borne finishes.
Expanding Specialist decorative effects.
Developing spraying techniques.
Good practice & links to the construction industry.
Preparation for the workplace.
Classroom based knowledge activities.

Maths, English and IT will be an important part of your course. You will continue to develop these skills and may work towards a qualification at an appropriate level.

How will this course be delivered?

Three quarters of this course involves practical assignments in the Painting and Decorating workshop and the rest is based around knowledge based activities. Our dedicated painting and decorating lecturers strive to deliver training at the highest level.

What qualifications will I get?

Diploma in Painting and Decorating (QCF)

How will I be assessed?

To pass this course you will have to successfully complete all practical and theory assessments and pass an on line end test. All assessments are carried out by qualified assessors to the required qualification standard.

How do I get a place on the course?

Apply on line at www.solihull.ac.uk or at Student Services either at the Blossomfield Road or Woodlands Campus.
If successful, places are offered after interview and an assessment of your Maths & English which is carried out at the Construction Centre at Griffin Park.

What are the entry requirements?

Level 1 Diploma in Painting and Decorating
And
Maths, English & IT studies at Level 1 or above.

What can I do after this course?

If you successfully pass this course you can apply to progress on to the NVQ 2 in Commercial Painting or Painting and Decorating.

Learners who have a high standard of attendance and have demonstrated a positive attitude can be recommended for any available apprenticeships.

Is there anything else I will have to pay for in order to do this course?

You will be required to provide safety boots and appropriate clothes to wear in the workshop.

You will also be expected to provide your on stationary e.g. pens, pencils and A4 folders
