Where will this course lead?

This course is ideal for you if you have completed a L1 Diploma in Plastering. It will build on your knowledge and develop your practical skills to an industry recognised level. A level 2 qualification is the minimum requirement to work on site.

What will I study?

Health & Safety
Building methods & construction technology
Types of communication, costing & quoting, drawing techniques, understanding teamwork on site
Applying backing plasters; skim finish.
Rendering
Plasterboard fixing techniques to walls & ceilings (including dry lining)
Floor screeding
Intermediate fibrous plastering (running & fixing cornice, dado & mouldings)
Preparation for the Workplace

Maths, English and IT will be an important part of your course. You will continue to develop these skills and may work towards a qualification at an appropriate level.

How will this course be delivered?

Three quarters of this course involves practical assignments in the Plastering workshop and the rest is in the classroom. The Plastering facilities consist of dedicated, industry standard training workshops and classrooms.

Diploma in Plastering (QCF)

How will I be assessed?

To pass this course you will have to successfully complete all practical and theory assessments and pass an on line end test. All assessments are carried out by qualified assessors to the required qualification standard.

How do I get a place on the course?

Apply on line at www.solihull.ac.uk or at Student Services either at the Blossomfield Road or Woodlands Campus.

If successful, places are offered after interview and an assessment of your maths & english which is carried out at the Construction Centre at Griffin Park.

What are the entry requirements?

City & Guilds Level 1 Basic Construction Skills (or equivalent BTEC qualification)
and Maths, English & IT studies at Entry 3 or above.

What else do I need to know?

Specifically for the workshop, you will be required to provide safety boots and overalls. To access the facilities inside the college, you will need a set of clean clothes and footwear to change in to.

What can I do after this course?

If you successfully pass this course you can apply to progress on to the L2 Diploma in Plastering.

Learners who have a high standard of attendance and have demonstrated a positive attitude can be recommended for any available apprenticeships.
