Where will this course lead?
This course is for candidates who are currently employed in the field of sport as a coach who wish to develop their knowledge and skills further formalise further their qualifications.
What will I study?
Anatomy and Physiology for sports performance
Leadership and Instruction in a specific sporting context.
Principles of fitness and training methods
Nutrition for Sports performance
Health, Safety, and Welfare in the Sporting Environment
Employer Awareness ( in the context of a sports environment)
Functional Skills in Maths and English
How will this course be delivered?
Attendance is based around current employment commitments - this will be discussed at interview, however some attendance at college will be required.
What qualifications will I get?
NVQ in Sport, Recreation and Allied Occupations: Coaching, Teaching and Instructing
How will I be assessed?
Multiple choice exam papers.
A portfolio of written session plans reflecting coaching over a minimum period of 3 months.
Delivery of a 12 week training plan in a range of environments.
Observations of a range of coaching sessions with individuals and groups
Written assignments
Presentations
How do I get a place on the course?
Applications should be made via College Call Centre on 0121 678 7000, or the college website. You will then be invited in for an interview and screening test for the course you have chosen.
What are the entry requirements?
Applicants MUST be currently employed in some capacity as a sports coach/instructor
Excellent communication skills are essential.
Applicants must be 18 years old to join the course.
If you have a Learning Difficulty or Disability please let us know when you apply. You will be offered support in your interview. If you need help completing your application we can help with this too.
What else do I need to know?
Successful applicants will be required to purchase course manuals and a polo shirt. The polo shirt is worn as uniform when in college. Successful applicants are also expected to provide appropriate exercise clothing to wear in the gym/sports complex environment.
